Indonesian Tsunami: Death toll climbs to 62
Jakarta, Dec 23 The death toll in a tsunami that hit western Indonesia rose to 62, while 20 more people are reported missing, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a representative of the Indonesian National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) on Sunday said.
The evacuation is ongoing, with at least 584 people having been injured as a result of the disaster.
Hundreds of homes and public buildings have been destroyed.
Indonesia had not even recuperated from the recent havoc done by the earthquake, a major tragedy has again jolted the nation. As per Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency the tsunami occurred on Saturday hitting coastal areas of Sunda Strait, including Pandeglang and Serang districts of Banten province and south Lampung of Lampung province.
