Srinagar, Dec 23 Train service resumed on Sunday after remaining suspended for a day in Kashmir valley, where six militants were killed in an encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
‘We have resumed train service in the valley since this morning after receiving a green signal from police and civil administration,’ a senior railway official told UNI.
He said train run started on Srinagar-Budgam and Baramulla track in north Kashmir on Sunday morning.
Similarly, train service also resumed on Budgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
He said rail authorities act on the advice of local administration since they take the decision keeping in view the safety and security of passengers besides railway staff. In the past, railway suffered massive loss due to violence, particularly during strikes.
The railway service was suspended on Saturday for security reasons after six militants, including a top commander of Ansar Ghazwatul Hind, were killed in an encounter with security forces at Tral in Pulwama on Saturday.
