Demand for establishing Women’s Degree College in Nowgam Anantnag
Srinagar: People of Nowgam area of Shangas in Anantnag district on Monday stages strong protest at press colony Srinagar demanding college to the area.
The protest came after the authorities sanctioned locations for 40 colleges. In Shangas area, Chattisinghpora village was chosen as the location for setting up college.
The local residents including young and old since early morning gathered At the Press Colony Srinagar to register their protest.
“Nowgam is centrally located village barely three kms from Tehsil headquarter Shangas. But the authorities sanctioned the college to a far-off village. We feel that Nowgam being highly populated and holding central position was ignored under a conspiracy,” head of the local Auqaf committee, Bashir Ahmad Sheikh said.
He appealed to the authorities to revoke the decision and choose a central located place for establishment of the college.
“If college is set up at Nowgam it will cater at least a dozen villages around. One wonders over wisdom of the authorities to choose a far-off village for setting up a college and ignoring the one which is heart of the constituency,” said another resident.
He said that the people of the area will go for a massive agitation if authorities fail to meet their genuine demand.
