Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairperson Muhammad Yasin Malik on Wednesday led a protest rally of Joint Resistance Leadership in Srinagar demanding “immediate release of political prisoners”.
Witnesses said that scores of activists of JRL led by Malik assembled at Abi Guzar in Srinagar and chanted slogans for the release of political prisoners.
Malik, while talking to reporters said that the political prisoners are lodged in various jails even after completing their sentences.
He said that Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo who has completed 26 years in jail, Shabir Shah, Naeem Khan, Aasiya Andrabi, Fahmeeda Sofi and Naheeda Nasreen, Masarat Alam and others should be released immediately.
Malik urged the united nation human rights commission and other human rights organisations to focus their attention on to the issue and ask for the release of all political prisoners.
As the protesters tried to march towards Lal Chowk, police detained Yasin Malik and other activists and shifted them to Kothi Bagh police station.
