In current times, reaching out to the most vulnerable and needy has become a huge crisis
Sheikh Anis Mohammed Musa, Chairman of Orphans in Need, recently visited various poverty stricken areas of India. After assessing the conditions faced by the orphaned children, widows and the destitute, a meeting was held to discuss how their conditions can be improved.
Orphans in Need is an international welfare organisation, solely focused on serving orphaned children, widows and the most vulnerable members of the society across 14 countries of the world. The organisation undertakes several projects of supporting the different needs of the most poverty stricken within our communities and ensure their basic needs are met while improving their quality of life.
Sheikh Anis Mohammed Musa is extremely concerned about the conditions of the poor and needy always tries his utmost to fulfil their needs. During his visit to the impoverished areas of Jammu and Kashmir, he witnessed the harrowing conditions in which helpless widows and their orphaned children were struggling to survive. Diseases and illnesses were widespread amongst the poor and orphaned children who have no access to education, their conditions were so dire that there was no means for them to even feed themselves. These families are suffering in silence, with no help in sight and due to the heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, their homes have been destroyed. With temperatures dropping to -7°, the families are living in life threatening conditions, without adequate shelter or heating, the lives of these orphaned children, widows and the destitute are at risk.
After witnessing the severe weather conditions, Sheikh Anis Mohammed Musa distributed over four thousand winter blankets amongst the widows and orphans. The Orphans in Need team instantly distributed food parcels amongst the families, containing nutritious food, necessary sanitary products and other essential items. Orphans in Need have started building new homes and repairing the homes that had been damaged due to the snowfall.
A meeting of all the affiliated institutes from J&K was held today in Srinagar to look for the future course of action , in which it was decided that Orphans in Need will set up its own Educational School very soon.
Expressing his concerns, he further stated that orphaned children are amongst the most deprived and in need the most, yet it is tragic they are often neglected and forgotten. He mentioned that although they are in dire need of basic necessities, if we give special attention to their education and ensure they are nurtured in safe environments then there is no doubt their futures ahead will be bright.
Orphans in Need regularly support orphaned children and widows in many states in India, including Delhi, Haryana, UP-Bihar, Jharkhand, Bengal, Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir through the provision of monthly food parcels, blankets, winter clothing, and especially supporting the education of orphaned children.
Additionally, Orphans in Need provide accommodation for widows whose homes have been destroyed and also provide support to orphaned girls who wish to get married when they reach maturity.
Sheikh Anis Mohammed Musa has appealed to the Government and NGOs to step forward and visit these impoverished slums, so as they can witness the dire conditions in which these widows and orphaned children are suffering in. Sheikh Anis Mohammed Musa stated we all need to care for the poor by providing food, medical support, housing and education for these children. He said for those with the financial capacity; step outside of your homes and support the orphaned children, widows and poor around you to help in fulfilling their basic needs. If we all try to support orphaned children to the best of our ability, and give our due attention to their education and upbringing then there is no doubt we can build a brighter future for these children.
