Appeared in GATE exams but now cannot return home, students decry expensive air tickets

Jammu Feb 16 (KPS): ‎ Dozens of students who appeared in GATE exam on Feb 9 are thankful to the state administration for providing them special  flights to Jammu however, the students are now complaining  that Jammu -Srinagar highway is closed and they cannot afford air tickets, accommodation and meals  as most of them belong to middle class families .

“We are stranded in Jammu for three days now as no traffic plies from Jammu to Srinagar we have no money left to stay here we appeal state government to arrange air transport to lift us from here”,  said Tufail Alam a GATE student.

“The current air fare from Jammu to Srinagar is whooping around 18000 per head and we cannot afford air tickets that cost this much, Govt. needs to regulate the rates”, told Salman Qadri student who appeared for GATE exam.

The current spell of snow, rain and inclement weather in the State has a disrupted road as well as air services resulting in people getting stranded at various locations.

“State Government is making all efforts in facilitating the passengers stuck at various places due to closure of National Highway as well as cancellation of flights depending on weather we will speed up the work” Said IG traffic ‎Alok kumar. (KPS)
