Srinagar, March 13 : State Human Rights Commission on Wednesday sought response from government on a petition, seeking shifting of JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik from Jammu’s Kotbalwal jail to Srinagar.
Malik, who was detained on February 22, was lodged at Kothibagh police station here prior to his shifting to Kotbalwal jail.
In this regard, SHRC chairperson Justice (Retd) Bilal Nazki issued notice to Commissioner Secretary Home department for detailed report regarding shifting Malik from Kotbalwal jail. Malik was booked under PSA and shifted to Kotbalwal Jail.
“(JKLF chairman) is a well known political worker and is renowned personality throughout world and pleading the cause of their people with peaceful means and also working for amicable settlement of the state of Jammu and Kashmir which is internationally long pending recognized dispute in the world,” reads a petition filed
The petition has been filed by International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK through its chairman Muhammad Ahsaan Untoo.
JKLF had strongly condemned the “arbitrary arrest” and use of PSA against a political leader.
The JKLF termed it as a “glaring display of frustration of Indian rulers and their abettors in Jammu and Kashmir.”
