No Consensus Among NDA Allies on Next Goa CM, Congress Stakes Claim
The BJP-led alliance in Goa failed to reach consensus over the next chief minister on Monday, 18 March – a move necessitated by the demise of Goa CM Manohar Parrikar.
Parrikar passed away on Sunday, 17 March, after battling pancreatic cancer for a year. According to a CMO release, his last rites will be performed in Panaji today.
Meanwhile, Goa Congress leaders Girish Chodankar and Chandrakant Kavlekar wrote a letter to Governor Mridula Sinha, staking claim to form the government.
The Centre has announced today as a day of national mourning. Parrikar will be awarded a state funeral. (Agencies)
