New Zealand Mosque Terror Attack: First Burials of Victims Today
The first of the Christchurch mosque attack victims were laid to rest, as Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern returned to the city to pay her respects on Wednesday, 20 March.
Speaking to the media from Christrchurch on her second visit there since the terror attack, Ardern said, “There’s a desire to support the Muslim community as they return to mosques particularly on Friday.”
Ardern announced that NZ will observe two minutes of silence on Friday, with TV broadcasting the Muslim call to prayer live across the country.
NZ Foreign Minister Winston Peters will fly to Turkey to “reflect an accurate portrayal of New Zealand and New Zealanders,” said PM Jacinda Ardern.
This comes after Turkish President Erdogan, while campaigning for elections, presented the attack as part of an assault on Turkey and Islam.
Five Indians were among the 50 people killed in the terror attacks on Friday, 15 March, on two mosques in New Zealand’s Christchurch, the Indian High Commission confirmed on Sunday.
