Kanhaiya Kumar to Contest LS Polls from Bihar’s Begusarai

After the left was ‘left’ out of the opposition’s grand alliance in Bihar, the Communist Party of India has fielded former JNU Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar as the joint left candidate from Bihar’s Begusarai, NDTV reported on Sunday, 24 March.

The decision to field Kumar was taken by the left on Saturday, 23 March, a day after the opposition left CPI and CPI(M) out of the coalition in the state.

In a move that will plunge Kanhaiya into mainstream politics, he will be competing against BJP’s Giriraj Singh, while there are reports that the RJD might field Tanvir Hasan, in order to get the muslim vote.Kanhaiya and Tanvir are residents of Begusarai, while Giriraj is from Barahiya village in Lakhisarai district, Hindustan Times reported.

Kanhaiya Kumar’s left nomination comes after much speculation that he might be the opposition’s candidate from the Begusarai constituency.

The NDA also announced its list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on Saturday, 23 March.
