JKAACL Celebrates World Theatre Day

 

Srinagar (PR): J&K Academy of Art, Culture and languages today organized a function to celebrate World Theatre Day. World Theatre Day is celebrated on 27th of March every year. Function was organized at Tagore Hall Srinagar, which was presided over by former Director Doordarshan Srinagar Mr. Shabir Mujahid, while former Head PG Department of History Kashmir University and noted Writer Prof. Farooq Fayaz was Chief Guest on the occasion. Earlier, welcoming the guests present on the occasion, Mr Mohd Ashraf Tak, Chief Editor JKAACL presented brief resume of the activities which Academy has scheduled on World Theatre Day. Academy has been celebrating World Theatre Day for the past several years, this year too it has scheduled programmes at Srinagar, Jammu and Leh, Mr. Tak added.

Prof Farooq Fayaz while presenting his special lecture highlighted legacy of theatre in Kashmir from ancient times and role of Jammu and Kashmir in promoting and development of modern Theatre. Mr.Shabir Mujahid congratulated Academy for organizing this meaningful and purposeful function aiming at discussing the challenges being faced by Modern Theatre. A number of theatre lovers were present on the occasion which includes Arshad Nawshahri, Showkat Magray, Irfan Hajini, Gulfam Barji, Jan Majrooh, Nazish, Shah Jahan, Hilal Khan, Ambreen Bhat, Reshi Rasheed and Farhat Sidiqi. Farhat Lone, Nusrat Jan, Yasmeen Tahir, Asadullah Wani, Zahoor Sultan, Dr Gulzar Ahmad, Maqbool Sajid, Jeelani Kamran, G.N. Shaheen.

Proceedings of the function were conducted by Dr Syed Iftikhar Ahmad. Function was concluded by presentation of Live Theatre performance.
