NIA conducts raids in Kashmir’s Budgam

Srinagar, Feb 26: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday carried out fresh raids on the residences of two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in central Kashmir district of Budgam.

The development comes days after OGWs — identified as Saqib Ahmad Lone and Suhail Maqbool — were arrested by police in the district.

Official sources told UNI that Wager Khansahab was completely sealed and security forces were deployed in strength since early morning in the area. ‘Later, NIA teams raided the residences of both the OGWs simultaneously,’ they said.

They said arms and ammunition besides incriminating material were recovered from the OGWs when they were arrested last week.

The NIA has been very active in the valley since the arrest of Dy.SP Davinder Singh, who was caught while transporting two top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants out of Kashmir last month. Singh is currently being questioned in Jammu by the NIA officials after getting his transit remand.

The Dy.SP was arrested by J&K police on the 280-km-long national highway while transporting three people, including two HM commanders Naveed Babu and Rafi Ahmed, to Jammu on January 11.

Multiple raids were conducted by J&K police at his residences in the valley after his arrest. But, after initial investigations by the J&K police, the case was handed over to the NIA.

Singh was an officer in anti-hijacking wing of J&K police at Srinagar International Airport, and was part of the security staff that received a group of foreign ambassadors, including US ambassador, who visited Kashmir last month.
