Plastic Free Zones to be Created in B’la: DC
Chairs Meeting, Discusses Measures for Elimination of Single Use Plastic
Baramulla, February 28: In a bid to control the hazard of environmental pollution particularly through the rampant use of plastic, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo today said that plastic free zones shall be created across Baramulla district.
DC said this, while chairing the meeting of various concerned officers to discuss various measures and to review the implementation of various rules and regulations concerning environmental conservation.
Meeting was attended by SDMs, EOs of different Municipal Councils, district and sectoral officers and other concerned stakeholders.
On the occasion, a detailed and comprehensive discussion on the subject was held wherein DC stressed upon the concerned officers to strictly follow the relevant rules and procedures in letter and spirit so that single use plastic is eliminated. He directed to take all concerned stakeholders especially shopkeepers, tent house owners and other concerned entities on board so that appropriate plan is formulated. Moreover, DC stressed upon the concerned officers to play a proactive role towards the elimination of plastic hazard in the district
Meanwhile, DC said that a complete ban on the use of polythene shall be imposed in his office for which the necessary order shall be notified. He also directed to disseminate awareness by displaying hoardings and other relevant posters wherein ill effects of plastic use should be displayed.
Earlier the DDC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) wherein the Aspirational District Baramulla got an amount of Rs 2.28 Crore from NHPC under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) component of funding.
After signing the MoU, DDC said that the amount shall be used to upgrade the basic infrastructure in health sector. He also informed that a 24*7 health emergency centre, fully equipped with the latest and modern technicalities, shall be established at Sopore adding that health sector has been one the priority areas under the Aspirational Districts programme.
