Three highway robbers including two brothers arrested
Srinagar, Mar 12, KNT: Police on Thursday claimed of having busted a gang of highway robbers.
Police said that the gang was not only targeting truck drivers but also used to sneak into houses and decamp with valuable goods and cash.
Police added that this gang had let loose a reign of terror among non-local truck drivers and used to extort money by masquerading as gunmen brandishing dummy guns.
“On receipt of several complaints about highway robbery and house breaking incidents, a special team was constituted under the supervision of SDPO Sadder Dr Azhar Rashid-JKPS to investigate the incidents,” said a police spokesperson.
“During the course of investigation, officers were able to identify the accused persons involved in extorting money, committing thefts and masquerading as gunmen with dummy guns,” he said.
“The arrested persons have been identified as Sahil Ahmad Shah son of Muhammad Aslam Shah, Javaid Ahmad Shah and Imran Ahmad Shah sons of Ghulam Muhammad Shah all residents of Manganwaij Kanipora Srinagar,” he added.
He said that when the officers spoke to them, they learnt about their involvement in already registered FIRs regarding highway robbery and thefts. On their disclosure Maurti Car, TV, refrigerators, washing machine, gas cylinders, cooking gas stoves, crockery, electronic goods, vehicle batteries and 31 mobile phones were recovered.
“The gadgets used by this gang for house breaking/robbery were also recovered. Further investigation in this regard is in progress,” said police spokesman in a statement.
Pertinently, the accused have also been previously found to be involved in other cases of theft and robbery. (KNT)
