J&K suspends nodal officer for coronavirus control for dereliction of duty
The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday suspended Dr Shafqat Khan, nodal officer for coronavirus control, for dereliction of duty. “Pending inquiry into his conduct, Dr Shafqat Khan is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect,’’ a government statement said.” During the period of suspension, the officer shall remain attached with the office of the deputy commissioner in Kathua/office of the chief medical officer in Kathua.” The government has already ordered the closure of educational institutions and cinemas in Jammu and Kashmir till March 31 to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The government has set up several facilities across the Union territory to deal with possible cases of COVID-19. The government has also established isolation wards and mobilised trained medical staff. Testing facilities have also been established several hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir region.
Screening is also being conducted on foreigners at Srinagar and Jammu airports. The government has also advised people to observe proper hygiene and report to the nearest medical center in case of symptoms. There is also talks of avoiding Friday congregational prayers today in the mosques. According to reports, 1,433 people in Jammu and Kashmir are under surveillance, and only one case has tested positive. 1,178 are under home quarantine while 17 are in isolation in hospitals.
