Sensex bounces back 407 pts
Mumbai, Mar 13 : The equity market on Friday smartly recovered by 407 points to 33,185.97 till noon after hitting 10 per cent lower circuit.
Even, the Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose by 121.05 pts to 9711.20.
The Sensex slumped by 1564 pts to open at 31,214.13 pts and the Nifty too slipped by 483 pts to open at 9107.60 pts.
Earlier, the index hit the intra-day low of 29,388. The broader Nity50 index also climbed off the lows of 8,555, down over 10 per cent, after which trading was halted for 45 minutes.
The Sensex recorded day high and low at 23,349.83 and 29,388 respectively.
The sectoral indices include Materials, Finance, Telecom, Bankex and Metal boosted the sentiments. However, selling was witnessed in Consumer Durable, IT, FMCG and Energy.
The scrips like SBI, Sun Pharma, HDFC and Tata Steel advanced while ONGC, Nestle India, Asian Paints and M & M still under pressure, broker informed.
The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 566 shares rose and 1,349 shares fell. A total of 108 shares were unchanged. In Nifty 50 index, 23 stocks advanced while 27 stocks declined.
The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday announced that it will undertake a six-month US dollar sell or buy swaps to provide liquidity to the foreign exchange market. The swaps would be conducted through the auction route in multiple tranches.
Shares in Asia pared early losses on Friday.
Sentiment continued to be weak as fears of economic fallout from the coronavirus crisis deepened and the meltdown in the US, the world’s biggest economy, battered confidence around the globe.
