COVID: Amid lockdown Jammu celebrates Ram Navmi with fervour, no ‘saakh’ immersion

Jammu, Apr 2 : Jammu on Thursday celebrated Ram Navami with enthusiasm and religious fervour amidst lockdown while administration restricted movement along river Tawi which prevented people from immersion of ‘saakh’ on the last day of the Navratras.

People by staying indoors, celebrated the occasion by performing all rituals.

They performed ‘kanjak pujan’ and distributed sweets, ‘halwa-puri’, coconut and applied ‘Tilak’ to girl child within their localities while there was no hustle bustle due to complete lockdown in view of coronavirus.

Women ended their nine-day-long fast by offering special prayers on the occasion of ‘Ram Navami’.

Due to restrictions, people were not allowed to move out for immersion of ‘saakh’ and appealed to perform the traditions in their houses.

Meanwhile, police personnel were also deployed few meters short of river to stop people from reaching the river bank. UNI
