Srinagar, Apr 22, KNT: It’s really tough time for those whose kiths and kin die in hospitals these days, as they don’t get bodies instantly but have to wait for days together.

Even those who die naturally are being tested for Covid-19 infection.

A 60 year old man from Nawab Bazar Srinagar who was suffering from cardiac ailment died at SMHS Hospital. The body was sent to mortuary. A medico told KNT that they don’t want to take any chance. “We take samples of every deceased person in the interest of general public. Protocol needs to be followed if deceased tests positive for Coronavirus,” he said adding that body to family members is handed over only after they get test report.

“If test is positive, burial is done as per Covid-19 protocol and those who test negative, family is being allowed to bury the dead as per religious principles.”

When asked why it takes a lot of time in getting the test of any deceased, he said there are hundreds of tests in queue and it takes a day or two.

A family from Pattan alleged that one of their elderly person who died at SMHS Hospital was kept in mortuary for 3 days.
