BSNL Agent? Demanded money, but never allotted SIM cards to subscribers

Kupwara, May 11, A man who is masquerading as BSNL Marketing Agent, has minted money from naïve subscribers but has failed to provide them postpaid SIM cards since July last year.

When rumours were rife in July last year that Article 370 will be annulled and internet and mobile service will be banned in Kashmir, scores of subscribers from North Kashmir’s Handwara town decided to opt for BSNL post paid connection. “For each SIM card, we paid Rs 8.50 to a man identified as Abdul Majid who claimed that he is heading the marketing agency of BSNL in the town. Since July last year, neither this man refunded our amount nor did he provide any SIM card to us. He minted money from subscribers in the name of BSNL and now he gone into hiding,” the victims told KNT.

Pertinently, during turmoil that unfolded after the abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir, BSNL had categorically stated that it is allotting new post-paid SIM cards only to government employees.

“I thought he is a marketing agent of BSNL and paid Rs 8.50 to him. Till date I didn’t get any post paid sim card. This man avoids me on one or the other pretext,” Manzoor Ahmed said.

The victims appealed BSNL authorities to take action against the said person who claims to be the main agent of company in Kupwara.

When contacted, AGM, Marketing BSNL said that subscribers need to file a written complaint against the said person so that they could initiate action against the man in question. “Let they give us in written, we will initiate action,” he added. (KNT)
