Srinagar, May 11, KNT: Mobile internet gag continues in Kashmir Valley for the 6th consecutive day. Though calling facility was restored, but there is still a ban of this facility in Pulwama and Shopian-the twin districts of South Kashmir.
Mobile internet service was snapped and calling too was barred after the killing of top Hizb Commander Ryaz Naikoo in his native Beighpora Awantipora village of Pulwama district. His killing has sparked violent protests resulting in the death of a civilian and injuries to others.
As a precautionary measure, authorities snapped mobile internet service on the very day and the ban continues till date. The ban on calling facility in Pulwama and Shopian still exits.
“Don’t understand why mobile internet becomes first casualty even if situation is peaceful. The ban on internet is yet another tool of harassment. Students, who were already suffering in absence of 4G, are now completely devastated. Where are now those online classes which government was bragging about,” said Muntazir Ahmed to KNT.
Pertinently, Kashmir witnessed longest communication blockade last year after the abrogation of special status. The high speed internet that was banned in August last year still is in suspension mode and now there is no 2G at all this time.
“People were not able to access online content fully, owing to the slow internet speed and now they are witnessing yet another phase of internet suspension. In this scenario, how do Kashmiri students attend their classes and coaching?,” asked the owner of a Coaching Centre. (KNT)
