Opnion | Handling of COVID-19 Positive Case sheets

Health Workers exposure risk assessment and management of medical records of COVID-19 Patients.So,Governance arrangements will need to be sensitive to these pressures whilst ensuring thatthe standard of record keeping does not drop during these times and the excellent care being provided needs to be clearly detailed and stored in the medical records.
In addition to the general instructions issued by the WHO and Govt. of India, on COVID-19; the following precautions are diligently important and are suggested when you are dealing with patients or their medical records.
- Make sure your workplaces are regularly cleaning followed by disinfection.
- Case records/ documents should not be allowed inside to the patient room (isolated room).
- Whenever you or Health workers wanted to contact patient record, wash your hands and strictly advised to follow WHO Hand Hygiene guidelines.
- The medical record should cover with plastic covers while the patient is on treatment.
- While submitting the records to MRD; the plastic covers should be removed and submit the case sheet.
- Avoid recording data outside the dedicated areas.
- Keep all the sheets for a single participant together, with a staple or with a participant unique folder.
- Plastic covers should be disposed off at ward/ICU as per the Bio Medical Waste management ( BMW) guidelines.
- MRD staff should use Hand gloves strictly while dealing with COVID-19 positive patient case records (like Assembling, Medical coding, Deficiency check, Filingetc.)
The purpose of the suggestion is to ensure the employee and others are protected from catching, carrying and passing of SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19.
