Weather turns pleasant after about normal day temp in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 27: After witnessing above normal above normal day temperature, weather turned pleasant due to overcast conditions and rain in the evening in Kashmir, where weather warning has been issued for the next five days.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that isolated thundershowers and lightening with gusty winds (30-40 km per hour) would occur during the next five days under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which has hit the region on Wednesday.
“The pressure due to the WD will further develop in the region which would result in widespread rain over the weekend,” he said, adding the weather will improve from next week onwards.
After witnessing above normal night temperature, people in the summer capital, Srinagar, woke up to a sunny Wednesday morning. As the day progressed, the intensity of the heat increased and the maximum temperature settled at 30.3 degree, which is 4 degree above normal. The summer capital on Tuesday recorded the hottest day of the season so far at 31.7 degree.
However, black clouds covered the skies in the evening, resulting in pleasant weather with cold breeze brining the temperature down in the city.
Weather remained pleasant throughout the day in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, with sun playing hide and seek. The maximum temperature in the ski resort, which remained deserted from last about three months due to COVID-19 lockdown, settled at 17.2 degree. Gulmarg witnessed very light rain in the evening.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, also witnessed a hot Wednesday with maximum temperature settling at 29.8 degree, which is over 3 degree above normal. The health resort also witnessed relief from heat in the evening due overcast conditions followed by light rain.
The day temperature in other parts of the valley also remained several degrees above normal. But, the weather turned pleasant in the evening due to rain and cloudy skies.
