Srinagar, Jun 1 : After witnessing chilly weather conditions due to incessant rain on Sunday, weather turned pleasant as bright sunshine greeted people though maximum temperature remained below normal in the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley on Monday.
The weather warning for Isolated Thunderstorm (TS), lightening, hail and gusty winds (30 to 40 km per hour) has been extended during the next two days in Jammu and Kashmir in the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that fairly widespread light to moderate rain or thunders could would in the UT J&K and isolated light rain in UT Ladakh during the next 24 hours.
He said that there could be Isolated TS, Lightening, Hail and 30 km to 40 kmph gusty winds in Kashmir and Jammu till June 3.
However, the weather in the city was pleasant as bright sunshine greeted people on Monday, resulting in improvement in the maximum temperature. Against 16.5 degree recorded on Sunday, the maximum temperature in the city improved and settled at 23.6 degree, which is about 3 degree below normal. The minimum temperature in Srinagar also remained about 2 degree below normal.
Skies remained cloudy throughout the day in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, resulting in several degrees below normal maximum and minimum temperatures.
Sun played hide and seek at the world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, where the mercury during the day improved about 7 degree from Sunday and settled at 20.6 degree, which is about 2 degree below normal. The night temperature in the resort was about 3 degree above normal.
Other parts of the valley also witnessed pleasant weather after incessant intermittent rain on Sunday. The maximum temperature in Qazigind, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag improved and settled at 23.6 degree, 23.3 degree and 21. 5 degree, respectively. The day temperature in these places were below normal.
