Srinagar, Jun 4 : Police on Thursday claimed to have recovered a minor kidnapped girl and arrested the accused within 24 hours in north Kashmir.
A police spokesperson said that Police Station Dangiwacha received a complaint stating that a minor girl has been kidnapped by one individual identified as Ovais Khaliq Sheikh, a resident of Rawoocha Rafiabad.
“A case was registered and investigation was taken up,” he said.
He said acting on the specific leads, police was able to recover the kidnapped girl from Lolab area of Kupwara. “The accused was also arrested within 24 hours after receiving the complaint,” he said.
“After fulfilling all medico-legal formalities, the girl was handed over to her legal heirs. Investigation into the matter is in progress,” he added.
He said swift action by police against anti-social elements has been appreciated by the locals. “Community members are requested to cooperate with police in curbing social crimes in their neighbourhood. They can share information pertaining to social crimes with police. We reassure the community members that our efforts in curbing social crimes shall continue,” he added.
