MGNREGA employee drowns during duty hours; Kid dies after drowning in pond

Bandipora, June 8: A 4 year old kid died after he drowned in a pond in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The incident occurred in Zalpora, Nowgam area Sonawari town.

Locals told news agency KNT that 4 year old kid, Ali Muhammad Kachroo son of Muhammad Akbar, a resident of Zalpora Nowgam was walking beside a pond when he slipped and drowned in it.

“His body has been retrieved and laid to rest,” they said.

A police official confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, a MGNREGA employee died after he drowned in the rived in Chenab Valley.

Sources told KNT that Muhammad Ashraf Sukhnai of Kishtwar district drowned into the river while performing his duties. His body was retrieved after hard efforts.

Jammu Kashmir MGNREGA Employees Association while expressing grief over the demise of this ‘Rozgar Sevak’ said that it is the 22nd death of any MGNREGA employee during duty hours. (KNT)
