Bear kills half dozen livestock in Handwara

Handwara, June 14: Yet again a wild bear entered in north Kashmir’s Handwara village and killed a dozen livestock.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said a bear late Saturday night killed 6 sheep at Shatigam Rajwar area of Handwara, before escaping into a nearby forest.

Reports said “The bear barged into a cowshed owned by Syed Muhammad Maqbool Geelani resident and mauled around 6 sheep.

Sajad Ahmad a local resident talking with this newspaper said we are living in fear prefer not to venture outside, because of the presence of wild animals. He said the presence of a wild bear in parts of Handwara people are living with fear. He however appealed the authorities to look into the matter.

Meanwhile, Incharge wildlife officer Hafeez-ul-Khan confirming the incident to Kashmir Despatch said a team will visit the spot to access the losses, he said department is working round the clock for the safety of people. Officer added that last month two wild bears were captured live in Handwara villages. (Agencies)
