Anglers being asked to produce Covid negative certificate in normal Pahalgam

Pahalgam, June 22,:  It sounds strange that authorities are allowing business to function smoothly in Southern Hill Station Pahalgam but demanding Covid-19 negative certificate from the Anglers.

Angler is a person who fishes with a rod and line.

Sources told news agency KNT that authorities have issued a strange circular under which no Trout Angling Permits are issued to those who wish to do fishing in Pahalgam.

Under government norms, everything is normal in Pahalgam. Shops are open, transport is plying smoothly on roads, people are moving freely from one place to another, restaurants are open too but for authorities, only those can enjoy fishing, who carry Covid-19 negative certificates.

There are over 10 beats, means 20 anglers can do fishing at one time, but the circular issued by district administration has baffled one and all. “Why Covid-19 negative certificates are demanded from only anglers. There are people who are fishing on river banks everywhere and no such demand is made to them. This is surprising. It seems authorities want nobody should visit this picturesque tourist spot,” said an Angler.

The order issued by district administration reads: “It is to inform to esteemed Anglers that that the issuance of Trout Angling Permits is stopped with immediate effect till further orders.”

An official from Fisheries Department said that the order came from the district administration. When contacted, District Development Commissioner Anantnag said that he has no knowledge about the order and will look into it. (KNT)
