Suicide case: Family demands arrest of deceased’s husband
Budgam, June 26, KNT: A family in Khansahab area of Budgam staged a protest demanding arrest of those responsible for the death of a woman.
A lady daughter of Ghulam Nabi Paul of Gurweit Budgam committed suicide on 19 June at her home, while her family alleged that it were her in-laws that forced her to take this extreme step.
The family members who protested against the death of woman on Friday told news agency KNT that she was married to one Mehraj Bhat of Batapora Wathora five years ago. “We provided everything to her husband but yet the greed of groom and his parents didn’t diminish and they continued to demand cash and kind from the bride,” the family members said adding that she was being harassed by her in-laws.
The family members said that the woman was unable to tolerate repeated humiliation and insults inflicted on her by in-laws and finally she consumed poison and ended her life. They demanded arrest of the accused including her husband.
A police official told KNT that an FIR stands registered in this regard and investigation is going on.
