Centre cannot shirk its responsibility of securing our borders: Sonia

New Delhi, Jun 26: Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government on the death of 20 Indian soldiers in clash with Chinese forces, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday said that the Central government cannot shirk its responsibility of securing the borders.

In a video message released by the Congress party as part of its campaign to honour the Army personnel who died in clash with Chinese forces in Ladakh, she asked why the country’s soldiers were martyred when China has not captured any Indian territory, as claimed by the Prime Minister.
”PM Narendra Modi says China didn’t take our territory nor did it attack but Defence Minister, External Affairs Ministry and satellite images say otherwise. If China hasn’t intruded, then country wants to know why 20 soldiers died,” Ms Gandhi said.
‘Today when there is crisis at India-China border, central govt cannot shirk its responsibility of securing our borders,” she said.
She said that the PM should take the country into confidence on the situation on the India-China border issue.
”The country wants to know whether our territorial integrity is being violated by China in Ladakh. How and when will the government reclaim the land on which the Chinese have intruded. Will PM take nation in confidence on situation at border,” Ms Gandhi said.
She said that the government should give it’s full support and backing to take all the necessary steps to resolve the situation on the India-China border.
She said that the Congress party stands fully with the government on steps to resolve the situation.
he Congress is holding programmes across the country to pay tribute to the martyred soldiers.
