As COVID-19 becomes alarming in Kmr, LGs advisor B R Batnagar says, ‘On our part we are taking all measures, people too must obey all advisories of Govt’
Srinagar, July 11 : Appealing people to follow all the advisories of government, B R Bhatnagar, the advisor to Lieutenant Governor J&K Girish Chandera Murmu Saturday said that the government was taking all measures to stop the spread of virus.
He also said that there is no room for any complacency and people need to come forward if they have symptoms as this is the only way to contain the spread of virus.
The appeal comes in the wake of an increase in coronavirus cases in Kashmir.
In a brief chat with news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Advisor Bhatnagar said that people need to understand the gravity of the situation and take precautions.
“There is no room for any laxity or complacency at this particular hour. People need to follow the guidelines properly that include wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and washing hands by using sanitizers and soap frequently,” he said, adding that this was the only way to contain the virus spread in J&K as far as people’s role is concerned.
As far as the government’s role, he said that the government was taking all measures by keeping health set up ready to treat Covid-19 patients. “Government has been appealing to people time and again to take precautions. It is for the people to take precautions not the government. On our part, we are taking measures that include robust testing, collection of samples and ensuring proper quarantine for those who test positive,” Advisor Bhatnagar said.
He said the best and only way to contain the virus spread is that people who have symptoms should contact “our health facility” without any delay and get tested.
He, however, said that despite the surge in cases, J&K is doing good compared to the national average as far as containing the virus is concerned.
Asked why there are less deaths and Covid cases in Jammu region compared to Kashmir, he said it’s again the question of taking precautions. “Perhaps Jammu people are taking precautions. That’s why we appeal to the people of Kashmir to take precautions by all means,” he said. Pertinently, in J&K total positive cases have inched closer to 10,000 mark while death figure has crossed 160 with just 15 deaths from Jammu and 155 from Kashmir alone. (KINS)
