Death of woman: Protesters demand arrest of culprits
Banipora, July 19: Family members of a woman who allegedly set ablaze herself in the house of her husband Sunday staged a protest in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district demanding arrest of those who according to hem forced the woman to take such an extreme step.
Pertinently, a married woman (name withheld) from Aayathmulla Bandipora who was married to one Mubarak Ahmed Bhat at Chatibandi village set herself on fire in the house of her husband. The lady succumbed to her burn injuries later on.
The family members and relatives of the deceased woman hit to road and demanded punishment for the in-laws of the woman.
“We want justice and arrest of culprits. It needs to be investigated why our daughter ended her life. We want police to arrest the culprits,” a female protester told news agency KNT.
The protesters alleged that the deceased woman was being ‘tortured and harassed’ by the in-laws.
Protesters tried to block the road near SK Stadium Bandipora, however, police assured them the case will be investigated thoroughly. After the police intervention, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
Pertinently, the woman died on 10 July due to burn injuries.
Police have already registered a case in this regard and investigation according to an official is in full swing. (KNT)
