India records highest one-day spike of 38, 902 cases
New Delhi, Jul 19: India’s contagion tally gone past 10.7 lakh on Sunday after the nation recorded 38,902 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, highest single-day spike in fresh cases, the Union Health Ministry update said.
As per the Union Health Ministry, confirmed cases of the pandemic stand at 1077618. The COVID-19 active cases across the country presently stand at 373379.
The country’s death toll now mounted to 26816 after 543 more people reportedly lost their lives to the contagion since Saturday.
On the brighter side, with improving recovery rate, total number of cured nCoV patients across the nation has reached 677423, and the margin continues to increase towards the recoveries as compared to the number of active cases.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,37,91,869 samples have been tested for COVID as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) till Saturday.
The worst hit contagion state in the country Maharashtra has crossed 3 lakh-mark with the figure now standing at 300937, while the death toll has reached 11596.
Tamil Nadu, second most affected state in the country, now houses 165714 confirmed cases of contagion with the state’s death toll mounting to 2403.
The national capital’s is now home to 121582 cases, while the city’s death toll due to the pandemic has reached 3597.
Karnataka is now home to 59652 confirmed cases of the contagion and the fatalities have reached 1240.
Gujarat after having a spike of 915 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, now has 47390 confirmed cases so far, while the death toll in the state has now reached 2122.
Uttar Pradesh, after registering a sharp spike of 1873 cases in the past one day, is now home to 47036 confirmed cases. Fatalities in the northern state due to the pandemic also rose to 1108.
Andhra Pradesh has climbed a spot, leaving Telangana behind with now housing 44609 conformed cases after witnessing a sharp spike of 3963 fresh infections in the past one-day, while pandemic deaths in the southern state have now mounted to 586.
Telangana has also witnessed a sharp rise in cases with 1284 new infections since Saturday and the tally has risen to 43780, with the state’s death toll rising to 409.
West Bengal’s tally has surged to 40209, while Covid-19 death toll in the state so far stands at 1076.
Rajasthan is presently home to 28500 cases, while 553 patients have lost their lives to the virus till date.
Haryana, at present, has 25547 cases and 344 fatalities.
Bihar, after recording 1547 fresh infections, now has 25136 confirmed cases, with 208 fatalities.
Assam’s total case count has now reached 22918 with death toll in the state rising to 53.
Madhya Pradesh added 682 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking the count to 21763, while death numbers at present stand at 706.
Odisha, after recording a spike of 591 cases since Saturday, has now reached 16701 in terms of the confirmed cases recorded so far, while 11937 patients of the coronavirus have recovered in the state, while 86 have lost their lives to the lethal virus till date.
Jammu and Kashmir has registered 441 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, taking its total case count to 13198 , while 7165 people have defeated the virus in the state so far and 236 lost their battle to the contagion.
Kerala now has total 1165 confirmed cases of COVID, wherein 5199 have recovered and 40 people died due to the pandemic. The southern states have been witnessing a rapid rise in the number of cases since past several days, wherein Tamil Nadu is the one with the maximum number of cases recorded so far in the southern region of the country.
Punjab, after having a spike of 350 cases in the past 24 hours, its tally has surged close to 10 thousand-mark with the figure now standing at 9792, while deaths due to the virus in the northern state reached 246 after six more Covid patients died since Saturday.
Jharkhand’s total number of contagion cases have now reached 5342 , while 2611 have recovered in the state.
There have been 46 deaths in the state due to the virus spread , according to the government data.
