Devolution: Forest employees worried about their service rights

Srinagar, Sep 28: The Forest Department employees Monday appealed the higher ups of the Department to protect their service rights and shift them from Department to Corporation.
Divisional Forest Officer, Urban Forestry Division Srinagar has recently issued an order vide number DFO/UF/Estt/606 that proposes for Devolution of function, functionaries and funds in favour of Urban Local Bodies as per 7th Constitutional Amendment Act.
Out of 7 Ranges, the employees from ‘Hariparbhat’ and ‘Avenue Plantation’ Ranges along with budget are supposed to be transferred to Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
These employees on condition of anonymity told news agency KNT that transferring to a Corporation from the Department is virtually demotion and they fear for their service rights. “This way we may lose even pensionery and other benefits and it will be grave injustice towards us,” they said.
“Our job is the beautification of areas within the limits of Srinagar Municipal Corporation. We are Forest Department employees that are being shifted to Corporation. We appeal Principal Chief Conservator Forests to look into the matter,” they said.
DFO Urban Forestry Mr. Abid Nazir feigned ignorance about the order saying he hasn’t issued any such order. (KNT)
