Name plate of JCP SMC replaced with the name of retired official

JCP writes to Commissioner SMC demanding action against miscreants

Srinagar, Oct 13, KDC: In the latest surprising act of mockery and severe indiscipline that has taken over the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) lately, where one officer overrules the other, where juniors thrash seniors to land up in police lockup and where cooperators are being slapped by the commissioner, the nameplate of the Joint Commissioner planning’s room was replaced with a nameplate having the name of former and retired officer written on it.

The rot came to fore on Monday, when the Joint Commissioner Planning(JCP) SMC Ghulam Hassan in a written communiqué to the Commissioner, a copy of which is with news agency Kashmir Dot-(KDC), informed him about the incident and demanded an investigation into it and action against those, who were involved in the act.

In his letter addressed to the Commissioner, JCP Ghulam Hassan said, “Today on 12-10-2020 when the u/s reached office in SMC. I was surprised that unknown miscreants have removed the official designated sign board which was fixed outside the JCP’s room and replaced by the name plate of Mr. R.K Tuttoo, Joint Commissioner Planning.”

Pertinently the said Officer R. K. Tutto has retired on 31/10/2019.”

The letter further reads, “This is a serious matter and needs to be investigated in order to find the miscreant/ culprit who have removed/stolen the name plate outside my room.”

According to JCP his staff members and other employees in his section were also shocked to see his name plate removed.

JCP said that he called Chief Transport Officer SMC also to his room to witness the mischief for himself.

According to the letter, JCP says that later Secretary SMC came to his room and asked one of his own staff members to remove the name plate of R.K Tuttoo and replace it by name plate of present JCP immediately; however that was not done till 4 p.m on Monday.

JCP alleged in his letter that the act was aimed to harass him by official goons of SMC who have created vested interest by pressurizing municipal staff to toe a particular line.

He said, “I have observed that most of the SMC employees work under stress due to fear of hooliganism by certain elements.”

“However, these unlawful tactics of miscreant are not going to work, but shall be resisted at any cost to clear the mess in municipality’” he added.

While requesting the Commissioner to install CCTVs in SMC complex, JCP referred to an incident, which occurred on October 5th during the current month, when JCP was manhandled and assaulted in his office by two ward officers, for allegedly denying building permission to them, he said that the installation of monitoring equipment will help in avoiding such incidents.

The JCP requested the commissioner to book the miscreants and take necessary action under service rules against both the ward officers and their alleged henchmen.

“The action by miscreants to remove name plate is part of the overall scheme of things by those who prefer hooliganism and gunda gardi in SMC, which needs to be stopped immediately, without fail,” JCP added in his letter to the Commissioner. (KDC)
