Apni Party Vice President supports Gupkar stand

Srinagar, Oct 16: Hours after six parties in Kashmir forged People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, Apni Party leader & Vice president Choudhury Zulfkar supported the unity saying all parties must unite for restoration of special status of JK.

Choudhury Zulfkar deserted from PDP and joined Apni Party to become it’s Vice President.

He was a minister in the PDP-BJP government, and joined the Apni Party after abrogation of Article 370 when Mehbooba Mufti and other mainstream leaders were under detention.

“All the political parties must unite to fight for the honour, dignity, status of the people of state including restoration of State irrespective of our political ideologies,” Zulfkar tweeted.

Zulfkar was questioned over his tweet by PDP leader Nizamudin Bhat.

“How can unity be with forces not like minded, not ideologically akin to one another, not conforming to one strategy. It is always among like minded, Jenab,” Bhat asked.

To this, Zulfkar replied, “Sir, But all of us have a common goal to achieve the honour and dignity for our people.”

Zulfkar’s stand is opposite to the position taken by the Apni Party on unity among political parties for restoration of special status.

“These people met on 3 August and said we will protect Article 370, which was removed two days later. So the resolution is over. Yes, the Apni Party is for 370 restoration, but only the Supreme Court or the Parliament can do that. No regional party can do that,” Altaf Bukhari had said in an interview to the Print, an online news portal.

“They (parties) are hoodwinking people and creating a smokescreen by demanding Article 370. Gupkar Declaration is a means to grab power and nothing else,” he had said.

Six mainstream political parties on Thursday formed Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration to fight united on restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir and peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue. (KDC)
