Another scam of COVID loot surfaces at SKIMS; Two consignments of sanitizers worth one crore purchased in just eleven days

Kashmir Age Report

Srinagar: Amid reports coming out over the last few days regarding Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura (SKIMS) Srinagar, the largest medical institution in the Valley, another scandal of disorder and nepotism has erupted in the institution.
As per sources this time the management of the hospital has caused a loss of millions of rupees to the exchequer and in just a few days they bought 80,000 bottles of hand sanitizers from two different companies for a hefty commission.
It is still a mystery as to what is the secret of this hand sanitizer in the hospital that from March 16, 2020 to March 27, 2020, the hospital bought 80,000 bottles of the hand sanitizer.
Accordingly, in the year 2017, a tender notice was issued by SKIMS Institute under the number SIMS / 325 Drugs 09 of 2017 on 29/05/2017 and the supply of hand sanitizer was sought.

The equipment has not been procured from any company for three years, however three years later, current director uprooted the dead by digging under the guise of Covid-19 and first supplied 15,000 bottles of 500 and 100 ml to a Mumbai-based company called M /s MIL Laboratories Pvt. Ltd costing a sum of rupees 21 lac 41 thousand 550 and 6 lac 92 thousand 550 respectively. Just eleven days later, the same company was ordered to supply 50,000 bottles of same hand sanitizer costing 71 lac 38 thousand 500 rupees. Thus the institute aquired hand sanitizers worth almost one crore rupees. This was stated in the tender documents available with the Kashmir Press Service. It is clearly stated that these hand sanitizers are for free distribution among the hospital staff and the question may be asked why they were put on hold for three years if the tenders were called in 2017 while the hospital staff did not.
The hand sanitizer is a very important item for the hospital. The question is, if the hospital staff kept getting the sanitizer during this time, where would the supply come from and why no tender was called for it? Here it is enough to wonder why SKIMS needed 80,000 centrifugal bottles in just one day.
Tenders in this regard have been pending for three years.
Sources said that apart from the procurement of medicines and other equipment of the hospital, the members of the Purchase Committee get huge commissions from the pharmaceutical companies.
The amount of equipment and medicines manufactured by this company is used in the
hospital which is a matter of investigation.
Kashmir Press Service in this regard, when tried to talk to Dr. AG Ahangar, Director, SKIMS, many of them could not get in touch with him as his phone remained switched off.
It is noteworthy that the SKIMS is reportedly in a state of disarray and has been in the media for some time now. Many media reports have been published but the administration of Jammu and Kashmir is also in a trance and no action is being taken in this regard.
