Water Crisis in Kupwara; Residents Stage Protest, Department Helpless: Official

Kupwara, Oct 23: Residents of Tikker area in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday staged a protest demonstration against the non availability of water for past one month in the area.

Reports reaching KPS said that scores of people including women blocked Kupwara-Sopore road to register their protest against Jal Shakti department.

Raising slogans against Jal Shakti department for failed to provide them regular water supply and for ignoring their sufferings in the absence of proper water supply in the area for past one month.

The protesting residents said that they will go for bigger protest if their demands will not be redressed at earliest.

However, angry protesters appealed the higher authorities of Jal Shakti department Kupwara to look into the matter.

Meanwhile, talking with KPS an in-charge officer at Jal Shakti department in Kupwara division said that we can understand how people are facing water scarcity in the area but department too is helpless due to the dry spell, he said tanker service too is hard for the department to provide at this time as there is lack of funds also. The officer however, said that department is looking for alternative so that people will not suffer more.
