04 structure used for illegal commercial purposes, sealed in Suthra Shahi Area of Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 18,: With the change in the portfolio of Chief Enforcement Officer (CEO), in Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), where the post was assigned to the secretary SMC as an additional charge, the first visible action taken by the municipal authorities is in pathetically misused for commercial purposes in Suthra Shahi area of Srinagar.

According to KDC, in the first action after the assignment of independent charge to the new CEO, 04 structures were recently sealed in Suthra Shahi area of Karan Nagar Srinagar, where illegal commercial activities had become a headache for locals.

“These structures were used for commercial purposes in the said residential colony, in contravention of the building permissions,” Ghulam Rasool Dar, CEO SMC told KDC.

“We will not stop here, but will continue our drive against illegal commercial use of residential colonies in Srinagar and against the illegal constructions,” he added.

While hailing the action of the corporation, the local residents said that these 04 buildings were illegally used as warehouses and the trucks unloading goods here were also a matter of nuisance, as these were parked in the residential colony of Suthra Shahi creating great inconvenience for the locals.

Chairman Suthra Shai Welfare Committee Nusrat Ahmad Beigh said, “These trucks would block the lanes and by-lanes of the area and since these were also parked in a local ground, children of the area were also deprived of the facility to play here.”

“The sealing of structures has restored the sanctity and security of the housing colony and all the residents have heaved a sigh of relief,” Nusrat added.

While thanking the SMC authorities for the action take, he said,” “Though late, but much needed action to vandalize the city by using residential areas for commercial purposes has come as a sigh of relief for the locals and we hope that the drive will continue in future, without a let up, unlike in past”.

It will be worthwhile to mention here that KDC has been in forefront to in recent past, to highlight the stink in SMC and also its inability to save the Srinagar city from illegal constructions and misuse of the building permissions and the change in guard, followed by the recent action against illegal commercial use of residential buildings in Suthra Shahi area indicates that the authorities have finally raised from the slumber.
