Chowkidars hold protest in demand of rise in honorarium
Srinagar, Nov 21, KDC: All Jammu and Kashmir Chowkidar Association on Saturday held a protest to press their demand for the enhancement of their honorarium, news agency KDC reported.
According to the report scores of chowkidars working with revenue department assembled in press enclave Srinagar and raised slogans for being treated differently against a meager amount of honorarium.
Chairman All Jammu and Kashmir Chowkidar Association, Bashir Ahmad while taking to news agency KDC on the sidelines of the protest said that they have been exploited since last seventy years by deputing them to toughest kinds of jobs ranging from police duty to anti encroachments drives without considering any rise in their honorarium.
“While a laborer gets 1500 rupees against one day’s work, we are being paid 1500 a month,’’ he said.
“How is it possible to run our families against this meager amount,” he added.
“Even our uniforms are in a pathetic condition which were last issued several years ago,” Bashir said.
Lashing out at the government, Bashir said that we have been exploited for jobs like removing encroachments which at times puts our life into danger; however the authorities never look into the financial problems we are faced with.
The protestors demanded a minimum rise of 450 rupees per day in their honorarium or disbanding the chowkidars. (KDC)
