Voter turnout witnesses dip due to wrong policies of administration: GM Shaheen
Srinagar, Dec 5, KNT: Janata Dal United Saturday alleged that due to wrong policies of the administration, voter turnout was recorded much lower as was expected in the DDC elections.
GM Shaheen, President Janata Dal United for Jammu and Kashmir while addressing a press conference here in Kashmir capital Srinagar said that polling officers deputed at election booths need a proper training as they are unaware about the election ethics and rules.
“Banners of contesting candidates are being found inside polling stations which are against the rules of election commission,” he said.
Shaheen as per KNT said that on Fridays, people usually are busy in praying and there were thousands of people who failed to cast their vote. Some people turned up before 2pm, but the polling officers had locked the polling stations one hour before the due date,” he alleged.
“Voter turnout could have been more, if people would have been allowed to cast their vote, but they were denied their right to vote, as the polling officers had shut the polling stations before time,” he said.
Janata Dal United President GM Shaheen said due to wrong behavior and policies of administration and polling officers, voter turnout came down drastically.
In response to a question, GM Shaheen said that there has been fool proof security and security is not an issue at all. (KNT)
