Srinagar (PR): Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum has has asked the govt to take the public on board before taking decisions regarding the future of the real estate of the Jammu and Kashmir viz Lands, Water, Forests which belongs to the people of Jammu and Kashmir by virtue of history heritage and ownership. Reacting to the recent developments of demolitions, demarkations and other decisons JKCSF has taken a strong notice of the same.

In a statement JKCSF Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani expressed concern over the situation wherein the populace by and large has developed a fear psychosis with regard to the land law amendments and other real estate fears. Wani expresses concern over the condition of villagers in Budgam district who are living in intense fear of losing their homes after they were served with eviction notices from the Forest Department.

Wani reffering to news reports said that locals alleged that two weeks ago the Forest Department issued eviction notices to people saying that their orchards fall under “encroached” forestland.

According to JKCSF knowledge the villages, where notices have been issued in Budgam district, include, Kanidajan, Batiwudar, Jabbad, Branwar, Nagbal, Yusmarg, and Darwan.

Wani said that villagers told JKCSF they were scared that they would be rendered homeless after receiving the eviction notices from the Forest Department.

Similar situation of fear and panic was witnessed in Kanidajan villages also.

“The authorities have axed hundreds of apple trees and dismantled our mud ‘dokas’,” qouting the villagers, JKCSF said.I

JKCSF said it is true that these people are living in the forest area but they are residing there for centuries now. Where shall they go”, Forum asked.

JKCSF Chairman applauded the RTI movement chairman Raja Muzaffar for employing his tireless efforts in awareness on FRA in remote areas.

Wani said that JKCSF is monitoring the issues closely and will not allow any such move to succeed that is marring the rights of people of Jand K, affecting heritage or dispelling the people from their proprietary rights.
