Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh to Experience Isolated Snowfall

This week, heavy rainfall has only been forecast over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Saturday.

Isolated places across the plains of Northern India are set to experience dense to very dense fog on Thursday and Friday. Dense fog is likely over northern areas of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, and over isolated places of northeastern India on Thursday.

The northernmost states of India, particularly the Western Himalayan Region (WHR), will be affected by a fresh western disturbance from Friday onwards. The disturbance could bring isolated to fairly widespread snow or rain over the WHR and the northwestern plains through the weekend into next week. A 2-day total precipitation of 50 mm is possible over Jammu, Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh on Sunday and Monday.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also indicated the likelihood of ground frost conditions at isolated pockets across Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi during the next 24 hours.

Dry weather is likely over all the other parts of India for the next 5 days.

Low temperatures are expected across Northern India, Gujarat, west Madhya Pradesh and west Uttar Pradesh from Sunday onwards, as cold air is likely to invade India from the west.

Maximum temperatures have been forecast to be slightly colder or colder than normal over northern India, north-central India, northwestern India and northeastern India in this forecast period. Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, west Madhya Pradesh and west Uttar Pradesh will record maximum temperatures less than 2°C to 4°C below their respective normals on Monday. In other areas, the maximum temperatures are likely to be near normal or slightly warmer over in this period.

As for the minimum temperatures, they are expected to be near normal or slightly colder than average over north India from Thursday to Saturday. The minimum temperatures will be less than 2°C to 4°C below normal over northern and northwestern India and the adjoining region on Sunday and Monday, but at the same time, warmer or near-normal over south India and northeastern India. They could also be less than 3°C to 4°C below normal over west Rajasthan, Gujarat, and west Madhya Pradesh on Sunday and Monday.

Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions have been forecast at a few pockets over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Cold wave conditions have been predicted at isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.
Dense to very dense fog is expected at a few pockets over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Dense fog is also likely at isolated pockets over northern parts of Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely across Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Isolated rain/snow is possible over Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Cold wave conditions are expected at isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Dense fog is on the cards at isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and northern parts of Uttar Pradesh.
