Foreign envoys to visit Kashmir this week
Srinagar, Feb 15: A delegation of foreign envoys is visiting Jammu and Kashmir UT from February 16 on the pattern of their earlier two visits in the year after the abrogation of Article 370.
News agency Kashmir Dot Com has learnt from reliable sources that the envoys will be visiting J&K from February 16-18.
“The envoys will be meeting delegations of political parties, panchayat and DDC members, social activists, traders and journalists on February 17 in Srinagar. On 18 February, the envoys will meet people in Jammu,” sources told KDC.
The proposed visit follows India’s February 5 move to restore 4G mobile internet services in Jammu and Kashmir exactly 18 months after India amended Article 370 to revoke the special status of the erstwhile state.
India’s decision to restore internet services was welcomed by the US as an important step for local residents. While maintaining that there’s no change in the US South Asia policy, the Biden administration has said that it’s looking forward to “continued political and economic progress” to restore normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pertinent to mention, EU envoys from France, Germany, Austria, New Zealand, Italy and the Netherlands and EU Parliamentarians had visited JK in year 2019 and 2020 after the abrogation of the special status of JK on 5 August 2019. (KDC)
