Anantnag Police apprehends drug peddler gang, recovers huge contraband consignment

Anantnag, Apr 7: Police in Anantnag claimed to have busted a drug-peddler gang upon whose possession a huge contraband consignment was recovered in south-Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A statement issued to Global News Service (GNS) reads that a police party from police station Bijbehara established a Naka at Tulkhan crossing and apprehended two persons namely Lateef Ahmad Shah and Azad Ahmad Shah both residents of Nambal Mattan with 15 Codeine bottles.

In this regard case FIR no 64/2021 under relevant sections of law registered in P/S Bijbehara, the statement reads.

Upon questioning the duo, as per the statement, revealed that they have bought this from the house of one namely Gh Hassan Dar resident of Tulkhan Bijbehara. “In this connection a team of Subdivision level headed by SDPO Bijbehara under the close supervision of SSP Anantnag Imtiyaz Hussain rushed to the location and started searching the house, and during search 1715 bottles of Codeine were recovered from a dumped pit around 7 feet deep near the kitchen garden.”

Meanwhile, SSP Anantnag Imtiyaz Hussain, according to the statement, has expressed gratitude to people of Anantnag for being forthcoming in supporting the endeavour of police to eradicate the menace of drugs in the District.

The district level police officer, according to the statement, has reiterated firm resolve of Anantnag police to go to the last criminal to ensure that everyone involved in the illicit trade is brought to justice and rule of law is enforced. (GNS)
