Heavy downpour hits Kashmir again, roads waterlogged, higher reaches receive heavy snowfall

Srinagar, Apr 07,: Heavy rains, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm at a few places, lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir during the last 24hrs.

Meanwhile, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic movement, at several places due to shooting stones, for a brief period.

As per the last reports, traffic movement was restored on the highway and was plying normally after hectic efforts by the traffic department, reported news agency Kashmir Dot Com- (KDC).

Srinagar recorded 20.8mm rainfall during the last 24hrs till 8:30am and a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees celsius.

Qazigund, Anantnag, Pahalgam and Kokernag recorded 48.2mm, 40.0mm, 28.6mm and 21.2mm rainfall respectively.

Higher reaches including Gulmarg and Sonamarg received fresh snowfall between 2 – 6 inches.

More than a foot of snow was recorded at Sadhna Top. While fresh snow depth at Z-Gali was 9 inches and 12 inches at Furkin Top.

An per an independent weather forecaster, Faizan Arif, mostly dry weather is expected for next 24hrs, though a short spell of rain in between is possible at a few places.Weak Western Disturbances will continue to affect Jammu and Kashmir till the end of this month. (KDC)
