JK Education Council holds meeting to pay tribute to Prof G M Bhat, Dr Mustahson, others

“Prof Bhat was an institution in itself and his demise is loss for the entire society”

Srinagar, May 18: JK Education Council today organised a virtual condolence meeting in collaboration with Science Council and JK Educational Initiative today to pay tributes to Prof Gh Mohiuddin Bhat and Dr Mustahson Fazili of University of Kashmir and other scientists and educationists who passed away recently due to Covid-19.

Prof Qazi S Azher of Michigan State University USA and Chairman Scientific Review Committee, was the keynote speaker whereas Prof Javed Mussarat Vice Chancellor Integral University Lucknow presided over the meeting.

President PSAJK G N Var moderated the program.

Prof Qazi S Azher said that death of a professor is death of an institution and it is a huge loss for the entire society. He said that a Professor is not an ordinary person, it takes years sometimes decades of hard work in the making of a Professor. He said that if a professor dies at the prime of his career it can be construed as a great misfortune for the parent institution and the entire society. “The professor could have guided, taught, helped and groomed number of students but all that journey is cut short,” said Prof Qazi.

While paying tribute to Prof G M Bhat, he advised that every professor should take utmost care of his or her health and they constitute the ultimate nation builders. “At Aligarh Muslim University too number of Professors died due to COVID, which has created a huge vacuum in the quality education sector,” he lamented. “He said that Prof G M Bhat was a great innovative scientist. His citations, publications stand testimony to his great work. The glorious legacy of Prof G M Bhat will continue to live in the shape of his students and his huge work.”

Prof Javed Mussarat said that Prof G M Bhat was a great scientist whose name is mentioned in more than 700 journals. He has the honour of felicitating registrations of more than 45 patents and he himself holds several patents for his innovative work. “I knew him closely. It was a personal loss for me,” he said.

Prof Hamid Naseem Rafiabadi, Dean Social Sciences, CUK said that we should not forget the contributions of Prof G M Bhat and his legacy should live on. He proposed that a chair be made in his name and a series of lectures should be organised to honour this great soul.

Prof Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Dean Academics Kashmir University became emotional as he talked about late Prof G M Bhat. He said that there is a double tragedy in the death of Prof G M Bhat in these times. “First we lost a great human being and secondly we can’t even go to his home to console his family. Our emotions are pent up, we can’t express our feelings due to this COVID protocol,” he said while praying for the deceased soul.

Those who participated and spoke in the meeting included Prof Altaf Pandit, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai, Dr Tariq Abdullah, Dr Ali Mohammad, Lopa Shaw, Manzoor Wangnoo, Mir Nazir, Dr Sajad Atehar, Dr Manan Khan, G N Khamosh, Dr Zubair Ahmad of Mass Communication department Integral University and others.
