3-day mega sports event concludes in Srinagar
Need to advise children to stay away from menace of drug abuse: SMC Commissioner
Srinagar, Aug 27 : The participants from different educational institutions from the valley bagged different prizes in the three-day mega sports event, which concluded on Friday.
The event was organised by Shugul Sports Committee and co-supported by the International Delhi Public School IDPS. The first of its event was organised, which started on August 24 and concluded here on Thursday.
Welcoming the guests, Showkat Chowdhary, Chairman IDPS, as per the statement issued to the KPS said that the sports skills among the participants have been marvellous and need to be further polished and promoted by providing adequate modern infrastructure and added that the role of NGOs too can be instrumental in organizing such events so that more and more talented youth is identified and encouraged to devote time towards sports and excel in life.
The expression of confidence, smiles on their faces and enthusiasm among these young participants while performing events or competing in games gave a satisfaction which could not be explained in words.
Speaking on the occasion, Athar Aamir, Commissioner SMC said that wholehearted participation of youths, especially the girls; in Sports events exemplifies the sentiment of youth for peace and prosperity in their lifestyle. “The standard of competition and enthusiasm generated through these events set a benchmark for others to follow,” he said.
“We need to advise our children to adopt a healthy lifestyle and stay away from the menace of drug abuse,” Aamir added
The event consisted of a total of 10 to 14 Athletics disciplines and participation of more than hundred youths including unprecedented participation of girls.
Many Schools from the valley also fielded their teams in the games which made the competition very tough. Winners were later awarded with different prizes in lucky draws including cycle, juicer mixer, rice cookers, induction and other gifts.
These types of tournaments need to take place as it would give experience to all the children. They will represent Kashmir in different tournaments. During the lockdown, we were at our homes, but now we need to return to action, said Qazi Salman Director DD News.
Surinder Ambardar Ex MLC Bjp asked participants to take active part in sports as it helps in the personality development besides enhancing the decision-making capability of the individual.
Athar Aamir IAS Commissioner SMC and CEO smart city and Qazi Salman Director DD News were chief guests on the occasion.
The event was attended by Surinder Ambardar (Ex MLC BJP), GM Sofi (General Secretary BJP Baramulla) and Sumaira Shah (Corporator and District Vice President BJP).
