Police cracks whip on Drug Smugglers in Kupwara
Invokes PIT NDPS Act and detained 03 notorious Drug Smugglers under Preventive Detention
Kupwara, September 15: Police on Thrusday said that invoked PIT NDPS Act against three notorious drug peddlers in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
In a statement to GNS, the police said that in its continuous offensive against menace of Drug Abuse Kupwara Police continues its war against Drugs.
In a continuous effort to eliminate the menace of Drug Smuggling from the society, 03 Habitual offenders & Notorious Drug Peddlers/ Smugglers namely Javid Ahmad Lone son of Ali Mohammad Lone resident of Panzgam Kralpora, Shameem Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Tasween Bhat resident of Sudhpora Karnah and Jahangir Ahmad Khan son of Late Rehmat Ali Khan resident of Chitterkote Karnah, who were involved in Drug Peddling/Smuggling have been detained under The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropoc Substances Act ,1988 through orders issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and have been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu respectively, they said.
It is pertinent to mention here that under the provisions of Sec 3 of PIT NDPS Act 1988, a person engaged in Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances , which poses a serious threat to the health of a person and Society can be detained upto maximum period of one year and can be extended, they said.
Kupwara Police has busted several Narcotic & Narco-Terror Modules and have arrested many notorious Drug peddlers/Smugglers in different NDPS cases during this year, they said.
Kupwara Police is committed to continue it’s war against the Drug Peddlers/Smugglers and sought co-operation of people in curbing social evils especially Drug Abuse to save the youth from this fatal addiction, concludes the statement.(GNS)
