Kashmiri Students Attacked in Punjab as India Loses T-20 Match against Pakistan; ‘Local Sikhs Rescued Us’

Srinagar: Immediately after Pakistan registered a 10-wicket victory against arch rivals India in their first game of the ongoing T-20 world cup, goons attacked Kashmiri students in a college hostel in Punjab.

The Kashmiri students studying in various colleges of Punjab alleged that they were physically assaulted by Punjabis.

Speaking to Local Newspaper, a student from Bhai Guru Das Institute of Engineering and Technology in Sangrur area of Punjab alleged that they were attacked inside their hostel after India lost to Pakistan.

“It was students from North Indian states of Bihar, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, who barged inside our hostel rooms and thrashed us with sticks and rods,” an engineering student told Local Newspaper.

A video that was live streamed on Facebook showed vandalised beds and broken windows inside the hostel rooms of Kashmiri students.

“They hurled abuses at us and were shouting, asking us to go to Pakistan, ‘You are Pakistanis’ Yasir, a student said.

Most of the Kashmiri students locked themselves inside their rooms, till local Punjabis came and rescued them from their hostel rooms.

“They also gave first aid to the students who were minorly injured in the incident. It was the locals who saved us,” Yasir told Local Newspaper.

Meanwhile on twitter Kashmiris tagged Punjab police seeking help for the students assaulted inside their hostel rooms who Kashmiri students say have promised full help. (Agencies)
