Srinagar: On the eve of New Year, the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHKS) under the National Tobacco Control Program will launch an aggressive anti-tobacco campaign across Kashmir.
A spokesperson of DHSK said that this was announced by Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather in a meeting held regarding implementation of COTPA-2003 and Tobacco Cessation facilities in Kashmir division.
On the occasion, the director said that the use of tobacco is a health hazard that is a huge burden on society not only in terms of health but it also drains people economically as well as socially and mentally.
“On the eve of New Year, we are starting an aggressive anti-tobacco campaign across Kashmir valley, in the hospitals, public places for the awareness of people,” he said.
Dr Mushtaq requested the general public not to use tobacco products in order to help save themselves, their families and society at large.
The meeting was chaired by Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Rather. The meeting highlighted the importance of enforcement mechanisms of COTPA-2003.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Director Headquarter, Deputy Director Schemes, District Health Officers and Medical Superintendents across Kashmir division along with representatives of the National Health Mission (NHM).
Director Health Services, Kashmir directed the DHOs and Medical Superintendents to work in close coordination for improving Tobacco Cessation facilities in their concerned districts.
The campaign for tobacco-free health institutions, schools and public places was launched and directions were given to implement the same in all the districts of Kashmir division
